A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Set up Mint for Windows

Windows 10/11 x64 only. Mint Setup installs the app and shortcuts for your Windows account, without administrator rights. AI access and optional voice components are separate.

1. Download and verify

Get Mint-Setup-1.0.58-x64.exe from this site's release link. Compare its SHA-256 with the release details. In PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\Mint-Setup-1.0.58-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256.

This app is unsigned. Windows may show a security warning. Verify the source and checksum; don't disable antivirus, SmartScreen or other security protections. If you are unsure, don't run it.

2. Install Mint

Open the downloaded setup EXE and follow the installer. It installs Mint and its supporting files together, and creates desktop and Start menu shortcuts. The default location is your Windows account's local Programs folder. You can choose another folder you own. If Mint is already open, save your work and close it before updating.

The installer does not sign you in or download voice models, and it does not automatically launch Mint when finished. Open the Mint shortcut when ready. Existing chats, settings and keys remain in the separate Mint Chat user profile. Optional voice setup helpers are in the installed application's voice-setup folder.

3. Choose your own AI connection

Everyone can choose their own Gemini API key or their own eligible ChatGPT account through OpenCode V2. No shared account, developer key, subscription or AI credits are included. Live replies require internet access; Mint never automatically switches providers.

Option A: Gemini API key

Create your own key at Google AI Studio. Open Your workspace → Connection → Google Gemini, choose Live mode and enter the key. Use Save Gemini key securely for Windows-encrypted storage, then Save preferences. Google availability, quotas, billing and data-use terms apply; free-tier terms may differ. OpenCode is not needed for Gemini. Never paste a key into chat or this website.

Option B: your ChatGPT account

Install OpenCode V2 separately. In Mint → Connection, choose OpenAI account · via OpenCode, then Sign in with your own account, or Use connected account for an account already signed in on your PC. Choose an available model, Live mode and Save preferences. OpenCode's background service starts when needed; its chat window does not need to remain open.

Mint lists supported chat models enabled in your local OpenCode service, not a guaranteed subscription entitlement. Actual access, model availability, limits and compatibility depend on your account and OpenAI/OpenCode. No particular GPT version or subscription is guaranteed to work. A ChatGPT subscription does not include Gemini or OpenAI API credits. Login stays in OpenCode; connecting makes that account active there. Messages/images go to OpenAI. See privacy details.

4. Gemini desktop actions

Your Gemini connection can use Mint's limited Windows actions: open supported apps/public websites, create new text files or simple drawings, and request a normal Chrome-window close. Open Tools & voice → Desktop actions → Ask first to review previews before anything runs. This is the default for new public profiles. Automatic mode is an explicit alternative and can open windows or create files immediately.

Complex requests use your Gemini API key to plan, which can consume Google API tokens. The local executor validates plans. No arbitrary commands, file deletion, unrestricted file reading, force-quitting or dismissing browser prompts. New files go to Documents → Mint Chat Creations without overwriting existing files. Live web lookups remain unavailable with Gemini.

5. Free voice—no voice API key

In Mint, open Voice settings → Set up free voice. Approve the one-time download and keep Mint open until it says Free voice is ready. Mint downloads and verifies the local components for you. No scripts to run manually, no voice account, and no voice credits. Allow several hundred MB of download/disk space and an internet connection for setup.

New profiles use local recognition, Alba English speech and Nathalie's female Flemish Dutch voice. Existing custom voices stay unchanged. To switch, click Use free voice → Save voice. AI replies still need your own Gemini API key or eligible ChatGPT connection.

Voice models are not bundled in the EXE. Components come from GitHub and Hugging Face and retain their own licenses. Windows script policy is respected; do not weaken security settings. If setup fails, check your network and disk space, then retry. Advanced users can still use the included voice-setup helpers.

The Dii model is not bundled or downloaded by this setup. Dii is personal/non-commercial only under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0; selecting it without separately installed files will fail. System speech is another local reply option where a matching voice is installed. Recognition still needs its local model, or separately consented ElevenLabs listening.

ElevenLabs is optional and needs your own key, voice ID, separate text/audio consents and credits. Some voices require a paid tier. Voice chat is turn-based. Headphones and a close microphone are recommended; noise filtering cannot identify only your voice.

Backups, updates and uninstalling

Use Your data → Back up workspace before an update. Exports contain private chat/attachment data but not API keys. Close Mint before running a newer setup. Uninstall through Windows Installed apps; the installer does not delete the separate chats/settings/key/voice profile. Delete that data only if you explicitly want to remove it.

Known limits

No code signature, auto-updater or guaranteed compatibility. One Mint instance can use the fixed local desktop port at a time. Gemini has limited desktop actions, not live web lookups or unrestricted computer control. There are no macOS/mobile builds. AI can make mistakes; check important results.
